    Here is everything you need to know about World Blood Donor Day in 2022

    The world observes World Blood Donor Day to elevate attention about the importance of safe blood and blood products.


    Digital Desk: World Blood Donor Day is observed on June 14 each year around the world to promote awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products and honor blood donors for their selfless act of saving lives. 


    The day was also intended to aid national blood transfusion services, blood donor groups, and other non-governmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donation programs by bracing federal and local campaigns. 


    Although donating blood is not only necessary for saving lives, it also provides the donor with various physical and mental health benefits. 


    For everyone's information, any healthy adult, male or female, can donate blood, according to the National Blood Transfusion Council. 


    To mention clearly, men should donate blood every three months, while women should donate blood every four months.


    Why is Blood Donation Day so important? Let's Check 


    World Health Organization (WHO) mentioned that "Patients with blood and bone marrow disorders inherited hemoglobin disorders and immune deficiency conditions; victims of trauma, emergencies, disasters, and accidents; and patients undergoing advanced medical and surgical procedures all benefit from blood and blood products. Although there is a universal need for blood, not everyone has access to it. In low- and middle-income nations, blood shortages are particularly severe."

    The 2022 World Blood Donor Day catchphrase is "Donating blood is an act of solidarity." Join the effort and save lives" to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and strengthening social solidarity.


    Know the origin of the world Blood Donor Day 2022!


    The World Health Organization (WHO) established World Blood Donor Day in 2004 to raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood donations to save lives. 


    According to Karl Landsteiner, born on June 14, he won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1930 for his work on classifying blood types. His work was instrumental in revolutionizing blood transfusions and establishing the practice of transfusing blood between people of compatible blood types.


    The Union Health Ministry of India is working with all states and territories to review the preparations for World Blood Donor Day 2022.
