National leaders visit Akhil Gogoi: appeals to people of Assam to stand with Gogoi

Rights activists Yogendra Yadav and Samajwadi party leader Dr Sunilam visited the jailed peasant leader as well as the president of the newly floated regional political party Raijor Dal, Akhil Gogoi in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Sunday. Both the leaders visited Gogoi representing the Samyukt Kisan Morcha.

Soon after meeting Gogoi, Yogendra Yadav stated that Gogoi’s imprisonment is a deliberate plan of the BJP led Assam government to keep him away from the public view during the Assam Assembly polls.

Gogoi has been imprisoned since December 2019 for various charges which include sedition and inciting violence during the anti – Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) movement, for which Yadav firmly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

On the other hand, Dr Sunilam also appealed to the people of Assam to stand with the peasant leader.
