    Key Government Schemes for Women in Assam

    1. Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan (MMUA)

    Launched in April 2025, MMUA is the flagship scheme targeting around 30 lakh women entrepreneurs, primarily members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in rural and urban Assam. The scheme provides:

    • Seed capital of ₹10,000 to each beneficiary in the first year.

    • In the second year, beneficiaries can avail ₹25,000, split equally between a bank loan (interest borne by the government) and a state grant.

    • Successful entrepreneurs receive ₹50,000 in the third year.

    • The government has allocated ₹3,200 crore for this scheme.

    • An e-commerce platform has been developed to support women entrepreneurs in marketing their products.

    • The scheme aims to diversify the rural economy by promoting micro-enterprises in agriculture, animal husbandry, handlooms, handicrafts, and more.

    • Over 2.17 lakh women SHGs have already received benefits under various schemes totaling ₹1,090 crore.

    2. Orunodoi Scheme (3.0)

    This direct benefit transfer program supports 37.2 lakh women with ₹1,250 per month to assist with household expenses, healthcare, and education. The scheme has a budget allocation of ₹5,000 crore and includes:

    • Financial assistance to widows under the National Widow Pension Scheme with top-up pensions.

    • Support for women working in Assam’s tea industry, with a one-time financial aid of ₹5,000 to 6.8 lakh tea garden workers, many of whom are women.

    3. Lakhpati Baideo Scheme

    With an allocation of ₹250 crore, this initiative focuses on creating one lakh rural women entrepreneurs by providing:

    • Interest-free loans.

    • Mentoring and financial assistance to women-led startups and SHGs.

    • Skill training and mentorship programs to encourage entrepreneurship and economic self-sufficiency.

    4. Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)

    This scheme offers cash assistance to mothers delivering in government or accredited private health institutions, primarily targeting rural women to promote institutional deliveries and maternal health.

    5. Other Women Empowerment Initiatives

    • Ujjawala Scheme: Aims to combat human trafficking by providing rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration support to women and children.

    • Swanirbhar Naari: Supports women entrepreneurs with subsidies, low-interest loans, training, and mentorship to boost financial independence.

    • Swadhar Greh: Provides shelter and rehabilitation for women in distress.

    • Financial Aid for Education: Incentives for girls enrolling in higher education, including grants of ₹10,000 for Class XI admission, ₹12,500 for first-year graduation, and ₹15,000 for post-graduation, aimed at increasing female enrollment and reducing child marriage.
