Assam will launch its own satellite, ASSAMSAT, to support governance in agriculture, and disaster management.
Digital Desk: The Assam government today presented its budget for 2025-26 amounting to ₹2.63 lakh crore while enhancing expenditure rates. The capital expenditure budget for 2024-25 has also exceeded ₹24,964 crore.
Technology and Innovation:-
India’s First AI-Powered Anti-Deepfake Centre will be established in Assam to combat digital misinformation.
Assam plans to launch its self-operated satellite ASSAMSAT to enhance governance systems within agriculture and disaster response while creating infrastructure and maintaining border safety and law enforcement functions. Indian students can participate in experimental satellite development through this project which receives support from IN-SPACe and ISRO.
Infrastructure and Development:-
Dibrugarh will become Assam’s second capital through the construction of new Assembly facilities and MLA accommodation which require a ₹200 crore financial allotment.
The government planned construction of six prison facilities at these places Lakhimpur Tezpur Goalpara Dhubri Silchar and Mangaldai.
Cultural and Literary Initiatives:-
A budget of ₹100 crore has been designated for the development and beautifying of Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra situated in Guwahati.
The first phase of the Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaruah Bhawan construction project will happen in twelve selected districts throughout the initiation.
The financial support of ₹25,000 each will be distributed to 1,000 undergraduate writers to boost their creative activities.
Social Welfare and Women Empowerment:-
Through the Orunodoi scheme which received ₹5,000 crore in funding, authorities seek to benefit 37 lakh women.
Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan begins its operations on 1st April, 2025 to promote women entrepreneurship through ₹3,038 crore.
The Mukhiya Mantri Nijut Moina scheme will receive a budget of ₹391 crore for aiding girls through higher education while protecting them against child marriage.
Economic and Agricultural Support:-
The ₹342 crore funds will support ₹5,000 one-time aid for 6.8 lakh tea workers.
Green tea leaves qualify for tax exemptions under an extension that lasts until the end of two years.
Direct financial assistance for crops:-
The government provides ₹250 financial assistance per quintal for both paddy and maize crop.
₹500 per quintal for mustard.
Electricity and Ration Assistance:-
Starting from May 1, 2025 customers can receive a price reduction of ₹1 each for 120 or less electricity units.
Funds amounting to ₹370 crore will cover fair price shop commissions while October marks the start of ration card distribution of 1 kg each of lentils, sugar and salt to all cardholders.
Employment and Insurance:-
A total of 1.43 lakh taxpayers can now have their professional tax exemption through this measure which applies to monthly incomes up to ₹15,000.
Zero-cost accident and death insurance for contractual and public sector employees.
Under the National Pension System project implementation in NPS benefits 2.8 lakh participating public employees.
Environmental and Tourism Initiatives:-
The government plans to spend ₹20 crore to replace old safari jeeps of Kaziranga with electric vehicles.
Promotion of Reading Culture.
Public authorities support the habit of giving books as gifts during important dates.
All government employees can use their allowance for book shopping to get up to ₹1,000.
