Desk: In a thriller, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 5 runs in
their second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Barsapara Cricket
Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday.
Earlier, openers Prabhsimran Singh and skipper Shikhar Dhawan hit
half-centuries to help Punjab Kings (PBKS) to 197/4 in 20 overs.
When PBKS batted first, they made a powerful impact.
Prabhsimran Singh and Shikhar Dhawan, the openers, hammered the RR bowlers from
the start. While skipper Shikhar smacked Boult for two fours in the second
over, Prabhsimran crushed KM Asif in the next over, slamming him for 19 runs,
including three fours and a six.
PBKS reached 50 runs in 4.2 overs, thanks to a four from
Prabhsimran, who hammered Ravichandran Ashwin for two consecutive fours. Dhawan
scored his 48th IPL fifty in 36 balls, including five fours and a six. Chahal
was still being punished by the duo. He handed up 14 runs in the 14th over,
including three fours by Dhawan. Jitesh and Shikhar put on a 50-run stand in
just 25 balls. PBKS reached 150 runs in 14.4 overs.
Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer turn the tables for RR,
scoring 18 runs off Arshdeep Singh's 19th over. RR needs 16 off 6 balls in the
last over to win. After scoring 20 runs, local boy Riyan Parag of the Rajasthan
Royals attempted the maximum but ended up smashing Ellis' first ball into the
palms of Shahrukh Khan. Devdutt Padikkal's
slow and arduous innings finished with Nathan Ellis dismissing him for 21 runs
off 26 balls.
