Digital Desk: Gauhati University is preparing to implement NEP 2020-based courses in the Academic Session 2023–24, beginning from August 2023. Starting from the academic session 2023–24, the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (GU-FYUGP) is being implemented in the Gauhati University campus and its affiliated colleges.
GU-FYUGP will provide two types of degrees: (a) Bachelor's Degree in a Stream and (b) Bachelor's Degree in a Discipline. Stream-wise GU will offer 39 bachelor's degrees in several disciplines, as well as 28 standalone degrees including a Bachelor's Degree in Vocational Studies. The matter of approval of syllabi for the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was discussed and deliberated in various University Committees/Forums and was also approved by the Academic Council under the chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University, in which Professors of Gauhati University and representatives of Principals and teachers of Gauhati University were present.
A meeting of the principals of Gauhati University's provincialized colleges will be held on May 22, 2023, to discuss concerns relevant to the successful implementation of the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (GU-FYUGP).
The approved Regulations of FYUGP of Gauhati University clearly stated that in line with NEP 2020, there will be choices for multiple entries/exits, a Certificate or a Diploma or Degree with or without Major or a Degree (Honours) or a Degree (Honours) with Research at various levels in all affiliated colleges under Gauhati University and at the Gauhati University campus.
The Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Pratap Jyoti Handique stated in a press release that GU is also preparing to start the FYUGP at its campus in Jalukbari from August 2023 and that a new building entitled NEP Facilitation Centre is ready to begin classes for the new batches. It is anticipated that GU will begin the FYUGP at the campus in Arts streams with a maximum of 200 students, Science streams with a maximum of 200 students, Applied Sciences with a maximum of 30 students, and Integrated B. Com with a maximum of 70 students.
All information on the FYUGP course structure and syllabi will be available online at the GU websites, especially at a specific NEP portal at https://nep.gauhati.ac.in. There is also a feedback feature in the portal where students can get their queries resolved.
