Assam is set to make history on September 17 by planting 1 crore saplings in 2 hours...


Digital Desk: Assam will attempt to create history on September 17, 2023, by planting 1 crore saplings in 2 hours. With breathtaking views of a 22 km long queue of seedlings gripped at Khanapara field in Guwahati. 


"On September 17, approximately 40 lakh members of women's self-help groups from across the State will plant two commercially viable saplings each, bringing the total to 80 lakh. The rest (20 lakh or more) will be planted by people from all walks of life, including Anganwadi workers, tea garden workers, government officials, police and forest battalions, and members of the general public in the the state," remarked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.



Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state's Chief Minister, declared on September 7 that the state administration will attempt to shatter six old world records in tree planting while also setting three new ones. 


The major tree-planting campaign is planned to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, on the occasion of his birth anniversary.


The attempts which are to create new records are as follows: largest spiral of saplings; largest number of saplings distributed in a day at one venue; most trees planted in 1 hour; most trees planted in 24 hours; most team planted in 1 hour by a team of 100; largest planted tree mosaic; largest photo album of people planting trees; largest environmental conservation lesson online/offline. 


According to the Assam government, the exercise will also include the attempt of nine Guinness World Records.
