Digital Desk: A major illegal bird poaching operation has been uncovered in Lahorighat, Morigaon. There has also been a chain of poachers who have reportedly been hunting wild birds night after night. They can entice the birds out by using special machines that mimic bird calls, and they lure the birds out by playing sounds identical to their own species. Attracted by the familiar sounds, the unsuspecting birds approach, only to be trapped in the nets of these illegal hunters

On Sunday night, police managed to apprehend one of these poachers and also confiscated a large number of wild birds in Lahorighat. A police team, based on a tip-off, raided Goroimari, and upon searching, came across a few endangered species of birds that were confiscated by the police team led by the Lahorighat Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO).

Apart from capturing the birds, the police were able to arrest one of the poachers, identified as Saidul Islam. However, taking advantage of the darkness, another poacher escaped by jumping into a nearby water body.

It should be noted that the man, who had been arrested, had already been using a special bird-call gadget for a long time to capture wild birds and trade in them illegally.
