Digital Desk: With Assam facing a major power crisis, the state government is likely to establish load-shedding timetables based on the state's several municipalities.
As per a rumoured report, the Assam government will not raise energy tariffs, but will instead announce load-shedding schedules, most likely tomorrow or the next day.
As the state deals with excessive heat, residents have expressed dissatisfaction with frequent power outages and rising utility rates. As a result of these factors, many people have resorted to the streets to protest power disruptions and bill increases, claiming that the rise in mercury has made life miserable.
Earlier on Wednesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that load shedding is being closely watched, adding that previously 1,800 Megawatts (MW) were necessary, but this year 2,500 MW were required.
CM Sarma addressed why the electricity tariff could be raised, saying, "We don't have much electricity right now, and if we have to buy electricity, the power tariff will be raised by Re.1."
He stated that for the coming year, the state government has partnered with numerous corporations to increase the MW so that residents may have a continuous supply of power.
"The power is not cut for 5-10 hours anywhere, and if people require 24/7 power supply, we will have to raise the tariff," the chief minister continued saying.
It should be noted that the state has recently endured life-threatening temperatures, making people's lives troubling, and frequent power outages make it more worse. As a result, consumers have expressed worry that, even after tariff increases, they are not receiving a consistent flow of electricity.
