Digital Desk: In a significant twist in the political landscape of Assam, Chandan Brahma, a prominent Bodo politician and former Minister of Culture in the Sarbananda Sonowal ministry, is gearing up for a major shift in his political career. Brahma, associated with the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), is now set to join the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL).

This move follows the BPF's recent electoral setback, securing only four out of the 12 contested seats in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) during the Assam Assembly elections. The BPF, previously allied with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2016, was later replaced by the UPPL as the BJP's new partner in the BTR.

The UPPL, with the backing of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), has gained prominence, winning six seats in the BTR, marking a shift in the political dynamics of the region post-the Bodo Accord of February 2020.

Chandan Brahma's decision to align with the UPPL is viewed as a strategic move to synchronize with the current political momentum in the BTR. With his extensive experience and influence within the Bodo community, Brahma's entry into the UPPL is expected to bolster the party's standing in the region.

This transition underscores the dynamic nature of Assam's political environment, where alliances and party affiliations continue to evolve in response to changing electoral landscapes.
