Digital Desk: The crime rate in the state has shown a notable decrease, while the rate of case registrations has increased. Additionally, the conviction rate in Assam Police has seen significant improvement. These updates were shared during the monthly crime review meeting of Assam Police.
By May 2025, the number of cases registered dropped to 127.6% per lakh people, compared to 386.6% per lakh people in 2019.
Assam Police have made significant progress in expediting investigations and filing case registrations in court. As a result, the rate of charge sheet submissions rose to 77.54% by 2025.
The conviction rate in the state has also improved due to Assam Police's ability to present accurate and appropriate information in court.
In 2020, the conviction rate stood at a mere 5.5%. However, in the current year, it has surged to 26.09%.
These achievements were highlighted in a meeting chaired by the Director General of Police, Harmeet Singh, at the Assam Police Headquarters.
The meeting was attended by police superintendents from each district and other top officials.
