Digital Desk: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recalled Assam's role in the 1971 liberation conflict, which Bangladesh's Mukti Bahini and Indian forces fought together, and he said he is likely to travel to the neighbouring nation soon to further develop the long-standing ties between the two nations.

He was conversing with a delegation of 25 "Muktijoddhas" who were visiting Guwahati and Shillong for three days.

Sarma tweeted after receiving the delegation on Monday night: "The visit is part of #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav and Swarnim Vijay Varsh festivities organised by High Commission of India in Bangladesh & Act East Policy Affairs, GoA.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav honours the 75th anniversary of India's independence, while Swarnim Vijay Varsh commemorates the 50th anniversary of the allies' triumph over Pakistan in the 1971 war.

He continued by saying that Assamese civic society also stepped up to assist the East Bengali refugees.

The chief minister declared that the Bangladeshi foreign minister had extended an invitation for him to visit the nation.

Sarma tweeted, "I would make genuine efforts to honour the offer to strengthen civilisational connections between India and Bangladesh."

A delegation of 19 prominent editors and journalists from different Bangladeshi organisations also arrived in Guwahati on Monday.

According to a formal announcement, the delegation, which is being led by Independent TV of Bangladesh Chief News Editor Ashish Ghosh Saikat, will visit with a number of organisations while they are there.

According to the statement, this exercise is being conducted as a part of the Familiarization Program for Foreign Media being run by the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India.
