Abdul Matin is accused of murdering a rhino in Kaziranga National Park at January...

Digital Desk: After nearly a year of investigating, Assam police apprehended a suspect wanted for rhino poaching on Thursday.

Abdul Matin, one of the major suspect behind the poaching of a rhino in Kaziranga National Park in January, was detained in the north-central Assam district of Darrang, according to Special Director-General of Police G.P. Singh.

The police had set a reward of ₹2 lakh for information leading to the arrest of Matin and two others after uncovering proof of their involvement in killing and chopping off the horn of the rhino. On January 19, the animal's carcass was discovered in the park.

"He was found with a rifle suspected of being used in the crime," Mr. Singh added.

Following the alleged poaching incident involving Matin, Assam police commandos were deployed as part of the anti-poaching unit in Kaziranga National Park. Following the poaching incident, at least 20 commando men were posted in the world-renowned Kaziranga National Park as part of the anti-poaching team.
