This strategic collaboration aims to utilize the rich practical experience and discipline gained by ex-servicemen during their time in the Armed Forces and align it with the skill development

Digital Desk: In a landmark move,  Assam Skill Development (ASU) and the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, GoA, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)  to help ex-servicemen and their families. The Vice Chancellor (VC)  of ASU, Shri Subhash Das, IAS (Retd), and Brig Ploash Choudhury, SM (Retd), Director of Sainik Welfare, both signed the MoU.

This alliance focuses on combining what ex-service people know through their experiences in the Armed Forces with the learning, certification and training offered at ASU. The program is intended to help veterans adapt to new careers in many sectors, government roles, and PSUs.

Recognizing that many ex-servicemen retire at a young age with several productive years ahead, the program focuses on supporting their rehabilitation and getting them ready for employment. It also works to give war widows and the families of ex-servicemen suitable employment, so they become financially independent and secure in their community.

Col PN Giri (Retd), ZSWO Darrang, and Dr Jagadish Nath, Deputy Registrar, ASU, have all been chosen as the Single Points of Contact (SPOCs). Together, they are responsible for improving and controlling the program’s implementation for positive results.

At the ceremony, Shri Subhash Das underlined how veterans’ abilities could be used to respond to current job requirements. Brig Choudhury praised the initiative, saying it will greatly benefit ex-servicemen and their families.

This MoU will bring veterans together with mainstream economic activities and support their key contribution to nation-building.
