Guwahati: Farmer organization Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has called a ‘Bharat Bandh’ today against the three contentious farm laws; today, the farm law completes one year since they were passed. The bharat bandh began at 6 am and will continue till 4 pm on Monday.


Various organizations, including the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Left parties, Congress, Banking Union, extended their support to SKM.


SKM, in a statement, said, apart from farm laws, the bandh is a mark of protest against the price rise of essential commodities, crime against women, the National Education Policy and other government initiatives. Moreover, SKM demands to repeal the Electricity Bill 2020.

In Guwahati, SUCI (Communist) staged a protest against the three farm laws and demanded the repeal of the Electricity Bill 2020.


Our sources quoted, the protesters blocked the Ambari road and marched toward Ulubari, brawling slogans against BJP led Assam and Central government.


However, the protestors were finally stopped by the police force near Ulubari, Flyover. Twenty people were arrested in connection to the protest.


Earlier, on Sunday, members from different business associations, including Assam Chamber of Commerce, Central Coordination of Association Silchar, requested the traders’ fraternity to continue their routine business operation.
