The Rajya Sabha MP added that he would always be grateful to his nation, Bihar, and the party.....

Digital desk: BJP senior leader and MP Sushil Modi announced on Wednesday that he has been "fighting with cancer for the past six months" and will not be able to run in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The BJP leader said even informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the development.

The 72-year-old former Bihar deputy chief minister added in a Hindi tweet that he announced his diagnosis because he thought "the time had come to tell people".

The Rajya Sabha MP added that he would always be grateful to his nation, Bihar, and the party.

Leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and party MP Ravi Shankar Prasad expressed "deep pain" in response to Sushil Modi's declaration.

"I wish him a speedy recovery," he continued.

From July 2017 until November 2020, Sushil Modi was Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister.

He was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar in December 2020 without facing any opposition to fill the vacant seat of Ram Vilas Paswan, the leader of the Lok Janshakti Party, who passed away in October 2020 after a prolonged illness.
