Digital Desk: In a significant move to strengthen the cooperative sector in India, Union Home and Cooperative Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday announced the Central government's plans to launch an Ola, Uber-like app-based taxi service, 'Sahkar'. The new taxi service will provide bike, cab, and auto rides, HM Shah said.
Announcing the new government initiative in the parliament, the Union Home Minister said, "Sahkar Taxi will register two-wheeler taxis, auto-rickshaws, and four-wheeler taxis across the country."
He said that the initiative aims to help drivers earn money without sharing profits with big industrialists.
He added, "Profits from this service will not go to any big industrialist but will go solely to the drivers of the vehicles."
The Sahkar Taxi initiative will provide affordable transport service to the passengers with better earnings for the drivers. The government is also planning to establish a cooperative insurance company to support the service.
