Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, on Tuesday sounded Durga puja bugle in the state. CM Mamata, while addressing a meeting said that the government this year will not issue any special guideline for Durga Puja celebrations. However, she urged all the committees to organize the festival following covid-19 protocols set by the government last year.

“I have to follow the Model Code of Conduct…No new announcement, it’s the same as last year. The decision on people visiting Durga puja pandal at night will be taken later, depending on how the expected third wave surfaces,” Mamata Banerjee said.

She asked all the organizers of the Puja pandal to ensure that all visitors attending the Pandal should wear masks at all times and use hand sanitizers before entering the puja pandal.

“Make it small but beautiful. Arrange for sanitization and distribute masks among the people. The organizers can distribute masks and sanitizers in the close vicinity of the pandal for people who might have come to puja without one,” Mamata Banerjee said.

The government also notified that financial assistance of Rs 50,000, would be given to every puja committee. Electricity would be available for the marquees at a 50 percent discount during the four-day celebrations.
