In December 2020, Israel became one of the first countries to undertake a countrywide immunization campaign.

Digital Desk: Israel’s Ministry of Health reported two cases of a new covid variant on Wednesday; however, officials indicated that they were not worried about the new variant. Reportedly, PCR tests on two individuals arriving at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport revealed the strain, which combines two sub-variants of the Omicron type of the Covid-19 virus, named BA.1 and BA.2. The ministry statement reads, “The new covid variant is currently unknown worldwide. The two cases of the combined strain detected so far had moderate symptoms of fever, headaches, and muscular dystrophy and did not require special medical attention.” Meanwhile, Salman Zarka, Israel’s pandemic response chief, said to Army Radio, “The phenomenon of compounded variants is well established. At this point, we’re not concerned that it will lead to serious cases.” As per official reports, out of Israel’s 9.2 million inhabitants, more than four million have got three coronavirus vaccine doses. Moreover, about 1.4 million cases of covid infection have been officially registered, with 8,244 deaths in the country. On the other hand, as a part of a relaxation of covid-19 rules, last month, Israel said that unvaccinated tourists would be permitted to enter. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett stated that the country saw a “continuous drop in morbidity data.” Notably, due to the fast-spreading Omicron variant, a previous attempt to reopen the border in November failed after only a few weeks. In December 2020, Israel became one of the first countries to undertake a countrywide immunization campaign. The government said earlier this month that, in response to a surge caused by the Omicron variety, it would provide fourth Covid-19 vaccination to persons over 60 and healthcare personnel. BFC Banner
