The High Court had previously dismissed Kavitha's bail pleas, labeling her as a key conspirator in the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

Digital Desk: A Delhi court on Tuesday extended Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody in a corruption case related to the alleged excise scam until September 3. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja made this decision after Kejriwal appeared via video conference, following the expiration of his previous custody period.

The court is currently deliberating whether to accept a supplementary charge sheet against Kejriwal filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In a separate development, the Supreme Court granted bail to BRS leader K Kavitha in corruption and money laundering cases associated with the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan noted that Kavitha had been in custody for about five months and that the investigations by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) were complete. They ruled that further custody was unnecessary for the investigation and overturned a July 1 Delhi High Court order that had denied her bail.

The High Court had previously dismissed Kavitha's bail pleas, labeling her as a key conspirator in the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. Kavitha, who was arrested by the ED on March 15 and by the CBI on April 11, has denied all allegations.

During the Supreme Court hearing, the bench questioned the impartiality of the investigative agencies and criticized them for "pick and choose" practices. With AAP's Manish Sisodia and BRS MLC K Kavitha both granted bail, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal remains the only high-profile lawmaker still implicated in the alleged money laundering case linked to the Delhi Excise Policy.
