Digital Desk: Six planes departing Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) was delayed owing to dense fog, according to the airport authority.


The thick fog impacted aircraft routes such as Delhi-San Francisco/Kathmandu, Delhi-Chandigarh-Kullu, Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Dharamshala-Chandigarh, Delhi-Shimla-Dharamshala, and Delhi-Dehradun.


Residents in the national capital awoke to a chilly morning with a thick layer of fog on Friday, after already being hit by a cold wave since the start of the new year.


Around 6.10 a.m., Safdarjung reported a minimum temperature of 5.9 degrees Celsius.


The visibility in Palam was 100 metres at 6.10 a.m., according to the Meteorological Department.


Dense to very dense fog was seen across areas of Punjab, Northwest Rajasthan, Jammu division, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Tripura, as predicted.


"A dense/very dense fog layer (in the white patch) spans from Punjab to Bihar to Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh," the India Meteorological Department said.
