The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) announced that only registered vendors could sell tobacco, cigarettes and allied products in Guwhati on July 16. The purpose behind this step is to regulate and restrict the sale of tobacco products. 

Following the rule, the vendors will have to register themselves with the GMC to procure licences. The process of procuring licenses for these products will regulate the sale of tobacco in the city. This regulation is essential to save people from life-long suffering caused by addictive tobacco products. 

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) also decided to close down the hookah bars under the GMC’s jurisdiction permanently. It is to be noted that on June 5 all the hookah bars under the jurisdiction of GMC has been banned temporarily due to Covid-19 scenerio.
