No emergency rescue or evacuation strategy was in place. Neither lifesaving supplies nor lifeguards were present.

Digital Desk: The police have told a court that several mistakes were made during the reconstruction of the foot bridge in Morbi, Gujarat, which collapsed four days after it was reopened and killing 135 people on Sunday. The police are asking for the offenders to be taken into custody.

1. The renovation's "substandard" components left the entire structure open to damage.

2. The 143-year-old bridge's structural integrity was not examined before refurbishment.

3. The suspension bridge's cables, particularly the section where it broke, were corroded in many places. If the wires had been fixed, the incident would not have occurred.

4. Only the platform was modified as part of the renovation; the wires remained the same. The weight of this was raised by the materials utilized

5. The renovating job was contracted out to unqualified contractors. For refurbishment, the subcontractor just painted and polished the cables. Even though it wasn't eligible, the same company received a contract in 2007.

6. Without knowing how many people it could support, the bridge was made accessible to the general public.

7. Before it was reopened, no government approvals were required.

8. No emergency rescue or evacuation strategy was in place. Neither lifesaving supplies nor lifeguards were present.

9. The repairs were not documented, and no professionals had a chance to look them over.

10. The contractors had until December to finish the work, but they opened the bridge considerably sooner because they expected a sizable crowd for the Diwali and Gujarati New Year celebrations.
