Digital Desk: The chief engineer of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has been arrested for his involvement in taking bribes.

On Wednesday, a team of officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption cell caught and arrested the chief engineer, Indrajit Bora.

As per sources, Bora was caught while taking Rs 4,000 from the complainant in exchange for the release of his security deposit. The competitor has been identified as a contractor. 

Meanwhile, the ADGP of Assam's Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Cell tweeted, “A team of @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red-handed and apprehended Sh Indrajit Bora, Chief Engineer, O/O Guwahati Municipal Corp. immediately after he accepted demanded bribe from the complainant for releasing his security deposit.”

Meanwhile, anti-corruption officials have been conducting huge search operations at Indrajit Bora's apartment following his arrest. A large sum of money was seized from Bora's home.

Notably, the Assam administration has increased its anti-corruption efforts, convicting many government officials for receiving bribes.
