Digital Desk: Violence against minorities in Bangladesh, has a long history of communal unrest and targeted violence. In yet another incident of violence in the country, a prominent Hindu community leader, Bhabesh Chandra Roy of Dinajpur was allegedly kidnapped and brutally beaten to death. A media report and his family confirmed the news on Friday.  

Roy, 58, was a resident of Basudebpur village of Dinajpur, nearly 330 kilometres northwest of Dhaka. His body was recovered on Thursday night, local police said.

He was the vice-president of the Biral unit of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad.

Roy's wife Shantana Roy said that the miscreants made a call at 4:30 pm on Thursday to confirm his presence at their residence. Around 30 minutes later, four men allegedly entered their house and kidnapped him.

Locals of the area also said that he was taken to Narabari village and beaten up. His unconscious body was sent back home and his family rushed him to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
