Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted stormy weather over the next two days in the country's north-eastern region.

According to the IMD prediction, isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms will hit Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya on December 29 and 30, while Nagaland will see similar conditions on December 30.

IMD forecast the same weather conditions on December 29 in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

Dense fog is predicted to blanket these states until December 31. Moreover, IMD has issued a yellow watch for December 29 and 30. It asked the residents of the area to take appropriate precautions to combat the cold.

Reportedly, the combination of a western disturbance over Pakistan and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir, a cyclonic circulation over central parts of Uttar Pradesh, and a trough running from southwest Madhya Pradesh to south Bihar across north Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand will cause these conditions.

During the year-end, similar weather conditions are forecast in Northwest, Central, and East India regions.

In several parts of the northeast, minimum temperatures of 2-5 degrees Celsius above average are expected to persist.

On December 28, the lowest and maximum temperatures in various regions of Assam and Meghalaya were 1.6 to 3 degrees Celsius above average.

North India also faces severe weather conditions, with minimum temperatures dipping below average. Moreover, several regions of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh were blanketed with snow.

Delhi is also experiencing a cold wave, while Shillong was just blanketed in snow after being hit by a severe hailstorm last week.
