In Gujarat, heavy rains over the past two days have led to flooding in various low-lying areas, with several regions experiencing extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Digital Desk: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the "deep depression" currently affecting East Rajasthan and adjacent West Madhya Pradesh is expected to move westward, reaching the Saurashtra region and nearby areas of Pakistan and the North East Arabian Sea by August 29.

The IMD also warned of a "high flash flood risk" in several watersheds and nearby areas within the Met Sub-divisions of East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat over the next 24 hours. They forecast potential surface runoff and flooding in areas with already saturated soils and low-lying regions due to the rainfall.

In Gujarat, heavy rains over the past two days have led to flooding in various low-lying areas, with several regions experiencing extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has acknowledged the severity of the situation and reached out to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel and State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi by phone. Shah expressed his concern and assured them of the central government's support to address the crisis promptly.

"Due to the flood-like conditions caused by heavy rains in Gujarat, Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted the Chief Minister and Home Minister of Gujarat, promising necessary assistance from the central government," an official source told ANI.

In response, the Gujarat Chief Minister instructed officials on Sunday to evacuate residents from low-lying areas to safer locations. The chief minister's office reported that Valsad, Tapi, Navsari, Surat, Narmada, and Panchmahal districts in South Gujarat have been particularly affected by the rains.

Additionally, the IMD has issued an orange alert for the northeastern districts of Odisha, including Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajapur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.
