A case was filed against an Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) in Guwahati, as well as other private individuals, including contractors.

Digital Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained seven suspects in a Rs 50 lakh bribery case on Sunday, including an Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Guwahati, a contractor, hawala operator, bribe-giver, and others.

A case was filed against an Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) in Guwahati, as well as other private individuals, including contractors. The accused allegedly conspired to show undue favours to private contractors for contract awarding, preparation of measurement book, processing of running account bills, early release of payment against pending bills and for the ongoing work of construction in North East Frontier Railway (NFR), as well as early release of security deposit and bank guarantees.

It was also claimed that the ADRM, Guwahati, was accustomed to requesting and receiving unfair advantage from various contractors while serving as Chief Engineer of Construction for NFR in New Jalpaiguri.

It was also claimed that a contractor facilitated the delivery of the bribe to ADRM, Guwahati through his acquaintance with a Delhi-based hawala operator.

CBI set a trap and apprehended an associate of ADRM, Guwahati, while taking a bribe of Rs. 50 lakh supplied through the hawala route on behalf of the said ADRM. The ADRM and said private individuals were also apprehended.

Searches were undertaken at ADRM and other places, including Delhi, Narora, Guwahati, Siliguri, and Aligarh, resulting in the recovery of roughly Rs.47 lakh in cash, laptops, and several incriminating documents.
