Shami's brother Haseeb lodged an FIR against the sender, Rajpur Sinder, at the Cyber Crime Police Station of Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district.

Digital Desk: India pacer Mohammed Shami received a death threat via email on Sunday, May 4, and a ransom of Rs 1 crore was demanded for the cricketer.

Shami's brother Haseeb lodged an FIR against the sender, Rajpur Sinder, at the Cyber Crime Police Station of Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district.

According to the report, the FIR was lodged on Monday on the orders of the Superintendent of Police (SP).

The player, who is currently with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team, has been participating in the ongoing IPL 2025 championship.

Haseeb revealed that the mail threatening Shami was received around 2-3 pm on Sunday and he immediately approached the Amroha police.

The FIR was registered under the sections: Indian Penal Code (BNS), 2023 Section 308 (40), Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 Section 66d, and Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 Section 66e, and the police are investigating the matter.

Shami, who is struggling for form with the ball in the ongoing IPL campaign, is expected to make his return to red-ball cricket during India's tour to England, starting from June 20.
