Digital Desk: The Indian women's cricket team defeated Ireland by the largest margin of victory of 304 runs in the third ODI. Smriti Mandhana led Indian team defeated the visiting team at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday. The home team whitewashed the Irish side and won the series 3-0.
Opting to bat first, Indian cricketers scored 435/5 and created history by registering the highest-ever total by an Indian side across men's and women's cricket. Skipper Smriti Mandhana(135) and Pratika Rawal(154) smashed massive centuries in the match. Smriti registered her 10th ODI century while Pratika completed her maiden ODI century.
Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal also scored a record-breaking opening partnership of 233 runs. After Smriti's dismissal, Richa Ghose entered the ground and smashed a half-century.
Skipper Mandhana also achieved the milestone of the fastest century ever scored by an Indian women player with only 70 balls.
Irish players collapsed on the ground and could only add 131 to the scoreboard in response. Irish players were struggling at the ground and lost the match by a huge margin of 304 runs. Sarah Forbes(41) and Orla Prendergast(36) shared a partnership of 64 runs and were the highest scorers of the Ireland team. Deepti Sharma picked three wickets by sparing 27 runs.
The Indian women's team also breached the 400-run mark for the first time in ODI format on Wednesday. They registered 370/5 against Ireland in the 2nd ODI on Sunday. Previously, New Zealand (four times) and Australia (once) crossed the 400-run mark in ODIs.
