Digital Desk: At least 30 people died and several were injured after a bus fell into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district on Wednesday.

According to authorities, the bus with registration number JK02CN-6555 was carrying around 40 passengers when it slipped off the Batote-Kishtwar national highway close to Trungal-Assar and plunged 300 feet downward.

According to officials, a rescue effort has been initiated and some bodies have been retrieved.

Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, offered his condolences to the families of the bereaved.

"Deeply saddened by the deaths that occurred in a horrific bus accident in Assar, Doda. I'm sending my deepest sympathies to the relatives of the deceased and hoping for a quick recovery for the accident victims. instructed Div Com & Dist Admin to give impacted individuals the required support," the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir stated.

This is the district of Doda's second traffic accident in the last week.
