Digital Desk: A Delhi court granted bail to RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi, and their daughter Misa Bharti in connection with an alleged land-for-job scam.

The 74-year-old Lalu Prasad, who recently underwent a kidney transplant and was in a wheelchair, arrived at the Rouse Avenue court at around 10 a.m., but proceedings were delayed. The family appeared before Special Judge Geetanjali Goel around 11 a.m.

The bail was granted on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and one surety of the same sum each.  The case relates to alleged appointments made in the railways in return for gifts or sales of land parcels to Lalu Prasad's family during his tenure as railway minister between 2004 and 2009.

In its charge sheet, the CBI alleged that irregular appointments were made in the railways, in violation of Indian Railways recruitment standards and procedures.

As a quid pro quo, it alleged, the candidates directly or through their immediate relatives and family members sold land to Lalu Prasad’s family members at highly discounted rates up to one-fifth of the prevailing market rates.

On February 27, special judge Goel issued summons to the accused persons, including Misa Bharti, and ordered them to appear before the court on March 15.
