Udhas, who earned popularity as a playback singer in Hindi films passed away at the Breach Candy Hospital...

Digital Desk: Pankaj Udhas, the legendary singer, who gave memorable hits like 'Chitthi aayi hai' passed away on Thursday after a prolonged illness, his family confirmed today. He was 72.

"With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padma Shri Pankaj Udhas on 26 February due to a prolonged illness," read a statement from the family of Udhas. 

As per a family source cited by the news agency PTI, Udhas, who earned popularity as a playback singer in Hindi films such as "Naam", "Saajan", and "Mohra", passed away at the Breach Candy Hospital at around 11 am.
 
'Chandani Raat Mein', 'Na Kajre Ki Dhaar', 'Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein', 'Ek Taraf Uska Ghar', and 'Thodi Thodi Piya Karo' are just a few of his evergreen ghazals.

The singer released multiple albums and gave performances at concerts all over the world. 

The last rituals will be held on Tuesday.
