Bollywood actor Akshaye Khanna played his role in the 1997 blockbuster "Border," which was based on the Battle of Longewala.

Digital Desk: Colonel Dharamvir, the brave warrior of the Longewala battle in the 1971 war with Pakistan, died on Monday in Gurugram.

Between 1992 and 1994, he commanded 23 Punjab.

To let you know that Akshaye Khanna played the role of him in the 1997 blockbuster "Border," which was based on the Battle of Longewala.

During the 1971 war, Colonel Dharamvir was a brilliant young officer.

According to the reports, on December 4, while patrolling the border from the Longewala post, he heard the sound of Pakistani tanks approaching India and alerted his superiors. Following the hint of critical information, the Indian Army and Air Force took the necessary precautions.

In an interview, he stated that only 20 to 22 Indian jawans were stationed at the border post and that they kept the Pakistani army busy for the night. In the morning, they received assistance from the IAF.

Colonel Dharamvir was the first soldier to inform the army about Pakistan's attack, according to then-major Chandpuri.

Remembering the powerful Battle of Longewala, former IAF chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria said on the 50th anniversary of India's victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war that the Pakistan Army's plan of armoured thrust was "brilliant" and could have changed the course of the war. It was still; the only thing it probably forgot to factor in was India's air power.
