Imphal: Official sources stated that Manipur’s Jiribam district has become the first district in the state, to accomplish 100 percent vaccination for the first dose against Covid-19.

“There are 27,392 constituents in the district as per 2001 electoral registers. Therefore, a total of 27,429 eligible citizens have been vaccinated,” stated Deputy Commissioner W Malemnganba Chenglei, Jiribam district.

“All eligible inhabitants of the district, excluding Covid positive victims and severely ill individuals, have been injected with the first dose,” he continued.

The vaccination drive against Covid-19 began in Manipur on January 16, 2021. However, the Jiribam district started vaccination on February 9, 2021, comprising healthcare and frontline operators. Consequently, it was extended to persons even 18 years of age.

Jakuradhor Gram Panchayat became the first Gram Panchayat in the State to obtain a 100% goal for vaccination of the first dose on August 3, 2021.

As per recent official statements, the State has presented 15,19,826 doses of Covid vaccines, including 11,85,319 first and 3,34,507 second doses to the inhabitants.

Speaking on the present vaccination course in the State, chief minister N Biren Singh wrote over social media platform, “COVID vaccination is really aiding in our State. More than 15 lakh individuals have been vaccinated with 1st doses. Around 11 lakhs with 2nd doses. From now, school and college educators will be given preference. So kindly get vaccinated to stay safe from the COVID pandemic.”
