Digital Desk: Meira Paibis, a group of elderly Meitei women, will stage protests against the Assam Rifles in the Imphal Valley districts from Monday onwards.

They made the decision on Sunday during a convention held in the Malom Tulihal area in Imphal West district.

The women's collective agreed to impede the movement of the Assam Rifles, whom they have accused of "brutality during recent agitations," by blocking highways in order to advocate for the departure of the paramilitary force from the state's violence-hit areas.

Meira Paibis, which means "women torchbearers," has sought the support of women from across the valley districts.

Ethnic conflicts between Kukis and Meiteis erupted in Manipur on May 3 and have been continuing for the last three months, claiming over 160 lives.
