The Chief Minister highlighted that this initiative is part of the state government's broader effort to safeguard the rights of Assam's indigenous people.

Digital Desk: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced the introduction of a new domicile policy, stipulating that only individuals born in Assam will be eligible for government jobs within the state.

Speaking at a State Executive Committee meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Guwahati, CM Sarma explained that this policy aims to reserve government positions exclusively for Assam’s native residents. The proposed policy will be presented in the assembly within the next two months.

The Chief Minister highlighted that this initiative is part of the state government's broader effort to safeguard the rights of Assam's indigenous people.

In addition, CM Sarma revealed a policy change regarding land transfers between different religious communities. While transactions between Hindus and Muslims cannot be prohibited entirely, the Assam government will now require the Chief Minister’s approval for such land transfers.

Furthermore, the Assam Government plans to introduce legislation targeting ‘Love Jihad,’ with proposed penalties including life imprisonment for those convicted under the new law.
