Digital Desk : Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote an emotional letter to cricketer Ravichandran Aswhin. In his letter, PM Modi thanked Ashwin for his contributions to the sport as the off-spinner announced his retirement on December 18. The 38 year old cricketer ended his international career after the third test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

PM Modi in a heartfelt letter wrote, "I hope that this letter finds you in the best health and spirits. The announcement of your retirement from international cricket surprised fans in India and across the world. At a time when everyone was looking forward to many more off-breaks, you bowled a carrom ball that bowled everyone."

He further said, "However, everyone understands that this must have been a hard decision for you as well, especially after the outstanding career you have had playing for India. Please accept my heartiest congratulations on a career that has been full of brilliance, hard work and putting the team above everything."

PM Modi congratulated Ashwin for his illustrious career and said that jersey no 99 will be missed. Mentioning his special shot and leave of 2022 WT20, PM Modi wrote that Ashwin has the unique distinction of being remembered for both a shot and a leave in T20 World cup, 2022. His winning shot elicited great cheers. The way he left the ball before it, allowing it on its way to becoming
a wide ball, showed his presence of mind.

After retirement, Ashwin's main focus will be on playing for Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premiere League. He was picked by CSK for a whopping amount of 9.75 crore in this year's mega auction.
