Digital Desk: At least 22 prisoners from Assam's Karimganj district jail have been hospitalized after they fell sick following a four-day hunger strike.

The sick prisoner has been admitted to the Karimganj Civil Hospital.

As per reports, nine prisoners fell severely ill and were admitted to the hospital on Thursday due to health issues.

Officials from the district health department stated that they were suffering from dehydration and other problems.

Over a hundred people arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in Karimganj have been on an indefinite hunger strike since Tuesday morning, demanding bail.

The prisoners claimed that the jail authorities are treating them inhumanely and that over 500 prisoners are being kept in rooms meant for 170 people.
