Digital Desk: Reliance's entertainment unit JioCinema has secured a contract with The Pokemon Company to expand kids' entertainment programming on the streaming platform, Reuters report stated.


This is JioCinema's newest agreement to expand content on its platform in order to compete with competing streaming platforms such as Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar.


According to one of the sources cited in the news agency's article, the arrangement was signed this month, making JioCinema's streaming app the exclusive India platform partner for more than 1,000 episodes and about 20 films of the Japanese anime series.

Contrary to the source, the shows and films will be dubbed into up to three Indian languages to increase their appeal among regional audiences. Pokemon is a multi-billion dollar media property that includes trading cards, games, TV series, and movies.


The deal's financial terms have not been published.


Reliance's recent effort to integrate material aimed at youngsters represents the company's latest endeavour to expand its footprint in the rapidly developing Indian streaming sector.


The local streaming market is expected to reach $7 billion by 2027, according to research firm Media Partners Asia, which was quoted in the news agency story.


The report cited, JioCinema would add approximately 3,000 hours of children's entertainment, including films and shows from Entertainment One, Animaccord, Cartoon Network Studios, and DreamWorks.
