The incident has raised serious concerns about passenger safety on public transport in Guwahati

Digital Desk: During daylight hours, an unidentified thief stole around ₹45,000 from a passenger of Dhemaji who was travelling in  a  Guwahati;s city. Nabajit Gohain came to Guwahati solely for the purpose to deposit school fees  before this robbery occurred.

The employee of  Dhemaji Public Academy, was on his way to deposit ₹45,000 at the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) office situated in Bamunimaidam. He boarded the Chandmari bus heading towards  Ganeshguri while he carried the money securely in his possession.

As per reports , while he was he was  bus travelling in Guwahati’s city bus an unidentified man caused a distraction when he purposely poured water onto him. During the moment of distraction, the thief thief managed to snatch the bag containing the money and quickly vanished.

A person from the city bus network is suspected to have committing this robbery. Gohain became aware of the theft after leaving the bus so he directly reported the incident to the Dispur Police Station.

News of the theft has sparked significant worries about public transport safety in Guwahati. The police are investigating the incident by analyzing CCTV videos from both the vicinity and the transit route to determine who stole the cash.
