Digital Desk: A massive rental scam activity has been exposed because scammers used fake  OLX accounts to trick people in Guwahati people searching for rental homes. A man named Sahinur Alam created a fake OLX account and posted rental advertisements to lure potential tenants.

Many people reached out to Sahinur due to the advertisement he had displayed. He  showed genuine rental homes to the victims first to establish their trust. Before executing the transaction he required potential customers to submit thousands of rupees as an advance payment. After accepting the money he got he switched  off his mobile phone  and disappeared. 

 Recently, a resident of Hojai became a target in this scam which resulted in the loss of ₹12,000.  Following to his complaint police officials filed an Electronic First Information Report at the Cyber Police Station. The cyber police made the arrest of Sahinur using the information provided by the case. This case stands out as it became the first registered instance under the E-FIR system implementation.

The incident reveals an increasing risk that comes from both online rental fraud and cyber scams.
