Digital Desk: India is set to celebrate its 76th Republic Day on January 26, 2025. The annual event celebrates India's democratic foundation as well as its diversity, togetherness, and strength.


Security has been beefed up across the country in view of the Republic Day celebration. Security arrangements are intensified in different parts of Assam as well. Security has been tightened in Guwahati city and random checking of vehicles and search operations are underway.  


Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday held a meeting at Lok Sewa Bhawan to inspect the preparations for the Republic Day. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Dr Ravi Kota, Additional Chief Secretary Home AK Tiwari, Special DGP Hameet Singh, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr KK Dwivedi, Commissioner and Secretary GAD MS Manivannan, Guwahati City Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta and others.  


Ankur Jain, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Assam commented on Guwahati's security arrangements ahead of the 76th Republic Day Celebration. He said that the security arrangements have been beefed up so there's no need for fear for the public. Search operations and vehicle checking are intensified in different parts of Guwahati and SOPs are prepared for the public's safety.


This Republic Day, CM Sarma will hoist the national flag in Dibrugarh while Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya will hoist it at Khanapara, Guwahati.


Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is invited as the chief guest for India's Republic Day celebration. This will be his first visit to India as a President.
