Ujjain: 7 people were arrested and a total of 14 people have been booked for raising Anti-Indian slogans including “Pakistan Zindabad” at a Muharram procession in Ujjain on Thursday night.

According to the police, an FIR was registered against all the accused on Friday and the accused were found out to be residents of Geeta Colony in the city. They have been arrested on the basis of a video clip of the incident that was shot yesterday.

They have been booked under Sections 124A (sedition), 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), and 188 ( violation of order duly promulgated by officer) of the Indian Penal Code, said Satyendra Shukla, superintendent of Police, Ujjain.

The Superintendent of Police, while commenting on the issue said, “Hundreds of people had gathered for a procession and started shouted slogans ‘Zindabad Zindabad Pakistan Zindabad’. It went on for few minutes before some people stopped them.”

There was tension in the area last year as well so we decided to shoot the video, he added.

“Police personnel present there shot the video of the incident to be sure about the authenticity of the video. The FIR has been registered after identifying the accused from the footage. We have arrested seven people and more people will be booked. All the accused were found to be between 19 and 30 years old,” said the SP.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan slammed those raising Anti-Indian slogans and warned that “Taliban mentality will not be tolerated in the country”. He assured strict action will be taken against all the accused.
