Chesterfield Thangkhiew , the former general secretary of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) was killed in an encounter on Friday.

As per reports, he tried to attack one of the constables when his home was raided early morning in connection to IED blasts across the states recently was shot when the constable retaliated.

Thangkhiew was immediately rushed to the civil hospital but was declared dead.

The HNLC took the responsibility for the IED blast which took place in a crowded market on Tuesday in which 2 people were injured.

Thangkhiew is also suspected to be the mastermind behind the IED attacks across the state since he surrendered.
