Digital Desk: Tensions escalated in Hubballi, Karnataka, as a group of local Muslims protested the demolition of a part of a Dargah.

According to Mayor Iresh Anchatageri, the Karnataka High Court has approved the demolition of a section of the dargah for a construction project.

Security has been increased around the dargah with the deployment of a heavy police force in an effort to prevent any unfortunate incidents. Moreover, barricades have also been placed in the area.

Hubballi, a town in north Karnataka that was once considered a commercial hub, has become the epicenter of communal politics in the state. Numerous instances of inter-communal violence have been reported in Hubballi recently.

In April of this year, Hubballi experienced communal conflict over an alleged insulting social media post by a student. A large number of Muslims vandalized many police vehicles, a hospital, and a nearby Hanuman temple.

The student, Abhishek Hiremath had allegedly posted a video showing a saffron flag on a mosque.

In August, the Karnataka High Court issued an order allowing Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations on the grounds of Hubballi Idgah Maidan, sparking widespread outrage in the state.
