Digital Desk: In a warning to aspiring clerics about the "vice" of online pornography, Pope Francis revealed that many nuns and priests also watch such illicit content.

On Monday, the pontiff was speaking at a convention in Rome, where he was replying to a question about how today's seminarians are tech-savvy and engaged in the world of social media.

"It is a common vice among many people. So many laymen, including nuns, priests, and laywomen. The devil enters from there," he said according to the full text of the event released by the Vatican on Wednesday.

He urged aspiring clergy to embrace modern platforms to "spread the joy of being Christian without forgetting their identity or being overly exposed and arrogant."

"And I'm not only talking about criminal pornography, such as child abuse pornography, where you can see examples of abuse in real time: this is already degeneration. But there is some 'normal' pornography," he said.

He advised his fellow Catholics to remove pornographic content from their phones and to rebuff the "temptation in hand."

"Dear brothers, pay heed to this. Pornography weakens the soul," he said.

Despite having 64.3 million followers, the 85-year-old Pope stated he isn't an enthusiastic Twitter user "as he arrived too late." Reportedly, his multiple social media accounts are managed by a team.

The Vatican was left red-faced in late 2020 when it was revealed that Pope Francis' official Instagram account liked a photo of a Brazilian model, Natalia Garibotto, prompting it to seek clarification from the social media app.

Before being unliked, the "like" was visible on the photo on Garibotto's page for several days.
