Digital Desk: West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee arrived in Meghalaya on Monday for a two-day visit to the state, where assembly elections are due to be held early next year.

Notably, this is Banerjee's maiden visit to this Northeastern state which will go to poll along with Nagaland and Tripura.

Upon her arrival at Umroi Airport, Banerjee was welcomed by her supporters and the party's state leader, Dr. Mukul Sangma.

TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee accompanied Mamata Banerjee. During her two-day visit, Mamata Banerjee would attend a number of events, accompanied by Meghalaya Trinamool Congress leaders.

She will chair a Party Workers' Convention at the U Soso Tham Auditorium here on December 13, along with prominent TMC officials from across the state, delegates from all district and block committees of the party, and members of the party's women, youth, and student fronts.

Tomorrow evening, she will join pre-Christmas celebrations at the Windermere Resort, Umpling, with children from several orphanages, tribal headmen from Khasi and Jaintia Hills, distinguished members of civil society, and prominent Meghalaya influencers living in Shillong.

On her arrival at the Umroi airport here this afternoon, Trinamool Congress Legislature Party Leader and Leader of the Opposition in Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Dr. Mukul Sangma said, "We're extremely glad that the AITC Chairperson is here on her first-ever visit to the state. All of the party's foot soldiers from all around the state have had the opportunity to meet the party's chairperson. During the meeting, they will get a chance to speak with her."
