Sivasagar: In a joint operation of Assam Rifles and Sivasagar police, two youths were arrested on Monday morning who were about to join the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I).

Reportedly, acting on a tip-off, the Assam rifles and the Sivasagar police arrested the duo from 37 number National Highway in Dimu Rajamai. The two youths had hired a car (AS-04-K-0828) and were on their way to join the ULFA-I when the police arrested them, including the driver.  

The arrested two were identified as Manas Gogoi (29) from Dibrugarh’s Rahmaria and Kukil Kanchan Phukan (31) from the Naojan colony in Sivasagar.

Currently, the police are interrogating the duo, including the driver.

Police stated that a complaint had been lodged against the accused and further investigation is going on, after which necessary steps will be taken as per the law.

Earlier, five women from the state had joined the rebel group, whose video has gone viral on the internet, raising concerns among the netizens about the future of the Assam youth.

Out of the five women, two were national-level kickboxers identified as Nayanmati Chetia and Sabita Chetia and the other one is identified as Sarmistha Saikia. In contrast, the identity of the two girls is yet to be identified by the police.
