Eight years after their previous victory against Scotland in Australia, Afghanistan defeated England...

Digital Desk: Afghanistan scripted history by defeating the defending champions England in a stunning upset in a thrilling International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2023 match played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday.

Eight years after their previous victory against Scotland in Australia, Afghanistan defeated England for 215 to win their second Cricket World Cup.

Afghanistan produced a respectable score when put in to bat on a surface that had lately produced many huge runs, but they later outclassed England's bowlers when their spin trio dominated the legendary English batting order.

Afghanistan needed quick strikes to put England on the back foot after putting up a respectable total on the board, and Fazaqlhaq Farooqi delivered by curving one back into Jonny Bairstow and trapping him in front for two.

While excellently containing the Rashid danger and scoring his second ODI fifty, Harry Brook kept the England innings together, but he kept running out of partners.

With the wickets of Ali Khil and Mujeeb in the first ball of the next over, England broke the stand before the final two overs, but a respectable total had already been set. Afghanistan's 284 is the second-highest score in the Cricket World Cup.
